A Checklist for Your First Event

Here’s a clear, practical checklist you can use before and during your first swinging event. You can even screenshot this and review it together beforehand.

Before the Event (At Home)

Relationship Check-In

  • We both genuinely want to do this (no pressure).
  • We discussed our motivations.
  • We reviewed hard limits (absolute no’s).
  • We reviewed soft limits (maybe / not yet).
  • We agreed on:
    • Soft swap or full swap
    • Same-room only or separate-room allowed
  • We established a veto rule (either can stop everything).
  • We decided on a check-in signal (verbal or subtle cue).
  • We agreed we leave together.

Health & Safety

  • We discussed STI testing history.
  • We agreed protection is required.
  • We’re bringing our own protection.
  • We’ll limit alcohol or substances.
  • We understand consent must be explicit.

Emotional Prep

  • We talked about possible jealousy.
  • We agreed to debrief afterward.
  • We know it’s okay to just observe.
  • We’re comfortable saying “no.”

What to Bring

  • Protection (even if venue provides it)
  • Government ID (many clubs require it)
  • Cash/card for entry
  • Breath mints / hygiene essentials
  • Change of clothes (if needed)
  • A positive, relaxed attitude

At the Event

First 30–60 Minutes

  • Walk around and observe.
  • Get comfortable with the environment.
  • Check in with each other privately.
  • Remember: you don’t owe anyone anything.

When Talking to Other Couples

  • Make eye contact with both partners.
  • Include both partners in conversation.
  • Ask about boundaries early.
  • Be honest about being new (many appreciate this).

Before Anything Escalates

  • Confirm consent clearly.
  • Check in with your partner again.
  • Go slow.
  • Notice your emotional state.

If Something Feels Off

  • Use your signal.
  • Step away immediately.
  • Leave if needed — no explanation required.
  • Support your partner first.

After the Event (Very Important)

Within 24 hours, discuss:

  • What felt exciting?
  • What felt uncomfortable?
  • Did any boundaries need adjusting?
  • Do we want to do this again?
  • What would we change next time?

Focus on reassurance and connection afterward.

Golden Rule for First-Timers

The goal of your first event is not performance,

it’s comfort, communication, and learning

how you feel in the environment.

Many couples consider a first night successful if they simply:

  • Meet people
  • Watch
  • Or leave feeling connected
